The last time Neill Felipe Cubides was seen alive occurred in the north of Bogotá, near a medical center where he had spent several hours accompanying his 10-year-old son. It was the night of January 15 when the university professor left the place and took a taxi. From that moment on, his trail was lost.
Cubides, a professor at the Externado University of Colombia and a public official, left the clinic after being informed that only one companion could stay with the hospitalized minor. He was wearing dark clothing and an orange jacket. Security cameras recorded his movement to the point where he boarded the public service vehicle.
The first alarm signals emerged hours later. His family tried to contact him without success and, given the lack of response, decided to activate the search protocols. The next day, the disappearance report was formalized and his financial movements were reviewed.
The discovery was disturbing: during the early hours of the morning several money withdrawals and a purchase were made with their bank cards, operations that did not coincide with their habits or their known location. These movements led to the belief that Cubides had been held against his will.
While the family and the academic community spread his image to find his whereabouts, a parallel event occurred to the south of the city. In a rural area of the town of Usme, authorities were alerted to the presence of a body that had not been identified at the scene. No documents or elements were found that would immediately establish his identity.
Days later, after the corresponding forensic analysis, Forensic Medicine confirmed that it was Neill Felipe Cubides. The news closed the search, but opened a criminal investigation for homicide that is advancing today under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office, the CTI and the Bogotá Metropolitan Police.
The case generated a profound impact at the Externado University, where colleagues and students lamented the loss of a professor recognized for his academic commitment. The institution expressed its solidarity with the family and asked for respect for the ongoing judicial process.
The district administration announced the formation of a special team to clarify the facts and capture those responsible. In addition, the authorities are analyzing whether this crime is related to other similar cases recently registered in the capital, which could reveal the operation of a criminal structure dedicated to this type of crimes.
