The Pix instant payment system showed instability on Monday afternoon (19), causing failures in several banks and generating thousands of complaints from users across the country. The problem affected real-time transfers and payments, with an immediate impact on consumers and businesses.
According to the Central Bank (BC), the instability was caused by an internal problem in the Directory of Transactional Account Identifiers (DICT), a central database that stores Pix key information.
“The technical teams worked to identify and resolve the cause, and Pix is now operating normally”, informed the BC in a note.
According to the website DownDetectorwhich monitors interruptions in digital services, more than 6 thousand complaints were registered at around 2:40 pm, indicating a wide-ranging failure not restricted to a specific institution. Complaints began to decrease in the late afternoon, suggesting the normalization of the service.
Affected banks
DownDetector showed a simultaneous increase in complaints in at least eight financial institutions, reinforcing the assessment of failure in the central system. Among the banks mentioned by users are:
- Banco do Brasil;
- Caixa Econômica Federal;
- Itaú Unibanco;
- Bradesco;
- Santander;
- Nubank;
- Inter;
- C6 Bank.
Immediate impact
In addition to transfers between individuals, merchants reported difficulties receiving payments and even problems recharging card equipment that depends on Pix. As the country’s main means of electronic payment, any instability in the system has immediate effects on commerce and services.
At the beginning of the evening, the volume of complaints fell to close to zero, indicating that the system returned to operating normally after technical intervention by the Central Bank.
