The former presidential candidate for Somos Perú, Daniel Salaverry, was appointed as presidential adviser to President Pedro Castillo, according to a resolution published in the official newspaper El Peruano.
“It is resolved to appoint Mr. Daniel Salaverry Villa to the position of presidential adviser of the Consultative Commission of the Presidential Office in matters of government management, an honorary position,” indicates the resolution that bears the signature of Castillo Terrones and the Prime Minister, Aníbal Torres.
According to the Regulations for the Organization and Functions of the Presidential Office, the Presidential Office has an Advisory Commission that is made up of “professionals, specialists or representatives of civil society, of recognized capacity or experience, appointed by supreme resolution.”
“The position of member of the Consultative Commission is honorary and trustworthy. It does not disqualify for the performance of any public function or private activity (…) it does not generate an employment relationship of any nature with the Presidential Office”, he details.
With such a specification, Salaverry Villa could occupy said position, unlike his controversial appointment as president of Perupetro’s board of directors, from which he had to resign after almost a month since his appointment in the state company.
Meetings between Salaverry and Castillo
The former head of Congress, Daniel Salaverry, met for the last time with the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, on the morning of Thursday, March 3. The appointment took place after another meeting between the two for almost 45 minutes at the Government Palace the day before, according to the record of visits from the Presidential Office.
