Enamed: See measures applied to medical courses with poor evaluation

This Monday (19), the Ministry of Education (MEC) presented the results of the first edition of the National Medical Training Assessment Exam (Enamed), which evaluated 351 medical courses across the country. Of this total, around 30% performed unsatisfactorily, while less than 60% of students were considered proficient. Enamed: See measures applied to medical courses with poor evaluation

Upon publication of the data, courses with an unsatisfactory grade and that belong to the Federal Education System, which includes federal universities and private institutions, will go through a supervision process in which precautionary measures may be adopted. In total, there are 99 courses in this situation (check the list below). State, district and municipal public institutions do not go through the process, as they are supervised by the respective councils and local education departments.

>>The MEC published a list of grades for all courses evaluated on its website. Check it out here.

Measurements

The sanctions, according to the MEC, will be staggered and may range from reducing vacancies to suspending offers via the Student Financing Fund (Fies). Precautionary measures will be applied depending on course performance.

“The greater the risk or threat to the public interest, the more serious the measures adopted will be,” informed the MEC.

After the results are published in the Official Gazette of the Union, these 99 courses will have 30 days to present their defense to the MEC, before the sanctions come into force. After the deadline, the measures will be valid until the next Enamed application, scheduled for October 2026.

Results

The best performances on Enamed were observed among 6,502 students from federal institutions, who presented an average proficiency score of 83.1%, followed by students from state institutions, with an average of 86.6%, among the 2,402 enrolled.

The worst performances came from the 944 graduates from the municipal network, who achieved an average of 49.7% of the maximum score, with the average result considered insufficient by the exam. The 15,409 students in the private, for-profit network also presented an average of just 57.2% of the maximum score.

Enamed

Created in April 2025, Enamed is the adaptation of the National Student Assessment Exam (Enade) for students completing a medical course, with the aim of evaluating medical training in Brazil. The exam is mandatory and the result obtained by the student can be used to enter the MEC’s unified medical residency program, organized by the Brazilian Hospital Services Company (Ebserh) through the National Residency Exam (Enare).
