The national government, on behalf of the people of Venezuela, congratulated President Yoweri Museveni, who was re-elected as head of State of Uganda.
The information was announced by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, through a publication on his Telegram channel: “His exemplary leadership at the head of the NAM strengthened the voice of the Global South.”
In his message, Gil reaffirmed the “South-South” brotherhood and Venezuela’s commitment to a multicentric and pluripolar world order based on peace, sovereignty and justice.
“Long live the Venezuela-Uganda friendship!” concludes the publication that celebrates the continuity of Museveni’s leadership in the African nation.
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was born on September 15, 1944 in Ntungamo District. He studied political science and economics in Tanzania, where he began his activism against the Idi Amin regime. In 1986, after leading a five-year guerrilla war, he seized power in Kampala and was proclaimed president of Uganda.
Recently, Museveni was re-elected in the January 15, 2026 elections to begin his seventh consecutive term. At 81 years old, he obtained 71.65% of the votes according to the Electoral Commission, establishing himself as one of the leaders with the longest time in power in Africa after four decades of government.
Throughout his administration, he is credited with bringing political stability and economic growth to a nation previously devastated by civil wars. However, his administration also faces strong international criticism for its repression of the opposition and its resistance to handing over command to new generations.
