Fifty new ambulances for the Cuban health system

He Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) of Cuba advanced in its program to improve emergency services with the incorporation of 50 new ambulances to the fleet of this type of vehicles existing in the country.

The new batch, which has already arrived in the country, was acquired by the organization with resources from the State budget and should enter service in the coming days, highlights a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The equipment is currently in a start-up process carried out by specialists and technicians from the mixed company MCV Comercial SA, which has been the supplier, said this Monday the head of the Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans), Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, through his Facebook profile.

According to the minister, the new vehicles meet international standards to provide this type of services, having the basic equipment.

However, Rodríguez Dávila pointed out the possibility that other diagnostic and resuscitation devices could be installed.

The official added that the ambulances acquired have adequate autonomy, energy efficiency and maintenance support that ensures their operation.

However, he clarifies that although the purchase reinforces this type of service, its incorporation still does not cover all demand.

Project moving forward

The arrival of the ambulance batch in the country continues a project led by the Minsap with the participation of the Ministry of Transportation and MCV Comercial SA in April 2024.

On that date, and within the framework of the II International Transport and Logistics Fair, the parties signed an agreement that began on an experimental basis, in order to establish an alliance in the management of the ambulance service in the country.

As agreed, the emergency vehicles would be driven by MCV Comercial SA drivers, while the Minsap guarantees health personnel in charge of medical services on board.

The joint company, belonging to the Mitrans business system, would also be in charge of guaranteeing after-sales, repair and maintenance services for the fleet.

The first experience materialized in January of last year, when 15 vehicles were incorporated into the emergency service that operates in Havana.

Then, the head of Transport Operations at MCV Comercial SA, Alberto Ramos, explained that, based on the results of the initial tests, the service will be extended to other territories in the country.

Until now, the destination of the new batch of 50 vehicles had not been specified, but it is very likely that it will be distributed throughout all the provinces of the country.

The support of MCV Comercial SA with the Cuban health system is nothing new, since in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company established in 1995 for the marketing of engines, buses, trucks, minibuses, microbuses, other equipment and aggregates, donated to the Minsap 14 reconditioned Mercedes-Benz ambulances.
