Peruvian government deplores court ruling that frees Fujimori

Castillo wrote on Twitter that the ruling of the TC reflects the institutional crisis to which he referred last Monday in a message to Congress in which he referred to the precariousness of the justice system and the need for State reform.

“The international justice bodies to which Peru is attached and the rule of law must safeguard the effective exercise of justice for the people,” he added.

Prime Minister Torres, in turn, commented that the sentence must be followed, “but that does not mean that it cannot be criticized”, which he did, in time to say that the TC should disappear.

He added that the TC “has notified the public that it guarantees impunity and not that of any criminal, but of those who have a certain power, as is the case with Mr. Fujimori,”

After pointing out that he has not spoken with the president about the ruling, which in his opinion “attacks the fundamental rights of the victims of the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta massacres, which are heinous crimes” that do not merit a pardon, such as the one granted to Fujimori in 2017 for illegal and reinstated by the TC today.

In addition, Torres said, Fujimori committed the crime of aggravated kidnapping and has not paid compensation to the families of the victims, ordered in the sentence against him, and said he hopes that the TC will also release all the prisoners in the situation of the former ruler. .

He also stated that the TC on this occasion and on many others “has ruled against the legal system, the Constitution, but the sentence must be followed” and the people affected by Fujimori’s crimes will go to international bodies against today’s ruling and they will be successful.

The vice president, Dina Boluarte, expressed her concern about the decision of the TC in favor of Alberto Fujimori, “author of serious crimes that damaged Peru” and expressed solidarity with the victims, unarmed civilians, including a child, killed by an illegal military squad. in the Lima neighborhood of Barrios Altos and at La Cantuta State University.

“We yearn for a justice that does not allow cases of impunity and whose decisions are not part of political negotiations. We fight for a country where human rights are respected and the mandates of the international organizations that watch over those rights are fulfilled,” he said.
