A new package of notices from cycle II of the Aldir Blanc National Policy, totaling an investment of R$ 38.896 million, is being allocated by the Ministry of Culture (MinC) to Rio culture. The new package of notices was launched at Palácio Gustavo Capanema, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, last Friday (16), and was attended by the executive secretary of the MinC, Márcio Tavares, and the municipal secretary of Culture of Rio, Lucas Padilha.
In an interview with Brazil Agencythe executive secretary of MinC, Márcio Tavares, highlighted that this “is the largest direct investment in culture made by the Brazilian government in Rio de Janeiro, with a package of notices that are divided by the Rio city hall into more than 15 areas of activity, ranging from direct promotion to artistic residency, audience training and specific notices for the development of the audiovisual sector”.
Tavares added that this complete set of notices culminates in a notice for continued actions, for groups, collectives and activities that act on a recurring basis, which aligns these new notices from Rio with the new policies of the Aldir Blanc Law. “It was a long-awaited launch by the community and very successful”, stated the executive secretary of MinC.
The new notices, which total R$ 13.4 million in their first stage of launch, include the Master Bira President notice (R$ 1 million), Support for Local Actions – Cineclubs (R$ 3.4 million), Local Actions (R$ 3.2 million), Mediation and Audience Training (R$ 3 million), Production of Audiovisual Shows and Festivals (R$ 300 thousand), Cultural Products – Fluxo Continuous (R$ 800 thousand) and the João and Júlia do Rio Prize (R$ 615.5 thousand).
Recognition
The executive secretary of MinC also explained about the João and Júlia do Rio Prize, which recognizes people who contributed to the literary world of Rio.
The name pays homage to João do Rio, Brazilian journalist, chronicler, short story writer, novelist, translator and playwright, second occupant of chair 26 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL), where he was elected on May 7, 1910;
Júlia Lopes de Almeida was a Brazilian writer, chronicler, theater writer and abolitionist, who was part of the group of writers and intellectuals who planned the creation of the ABL. However, at the Academy’s first meeting, its name was excluded because the founders chose to keep the institution exclusively male, following the French Academy, which served as a model for them. The veto on women’s participation in the ABL only ended in 1977, with the election of Rachel de Queiroz to seat number 5.
Márcio Tavares informed that the João e Júlia Prize will recognize booksellers, bookstores and people from the literary world who contributed to the development of this sector in Rio de Janeiro.
“It is an unprecedented award and is also in the wake of the development of Rio World Book Capital, recognition that the city received through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco)”.
The executive secretary recalled that this was the first time that a Portuguese-speaking city received this recognition. “This leaves as a legacy these policies that also strengthen Rio de Janeiro’s vocation for books, literature and writing.”
Stimulus
Tavares has no doubt that the award and the title of World Book Capital further stimulate culture in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
“It is very stimulating because Rio de Janeiro is a cultural reference in Brazil, a city that has immense cultural diversity. And that is why this diversity of notices, languages and initiatives included was very pleasing to the federal government, because it seeks to provide coverage, both territorial and language, necessary to respond to this city that breathes culture.”
