The level of the Acre River in the capital of Acre, Rio Branco, is already at 1,455 cm (14.55 meters), above the flood level of 1,400 cm. The information was released this Sunday (18) in the hydrological alert bulletin for the Acre River Basin (SAH Rio Acre), released by the Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB). The situation is expected to stabilize today.
As he explained to Brazil Agency researcher Artur Matos, from SGB, there was a flood in the Acre River at the end of last year, followed by a lot of rain at the beginning of 2026, which caused the level to rise again.
“But with the rain that has already happened, we are reaching the maximum today, and the river level should stabilize, starting to fall today or tomorrow.”
Matos clarified that, in the SGB, the concept of flooding means that the first houses have already been affected. “Something must have already been achieved in Rio Branco.”
In the state capital, the Acre River is reaching its peak, which means stabilization and then falling. The SGB researcher admitted, on the other hand, that, if there is another rain, the river level could rise again.
In the municipalities of Xapuri, Brasiléia and Epitaciolândia, river levels present values below the alert level, of 1,250 cm and 980 cm, respectively, reaching 1,168 cm and 584 cm.
“The flood wave has passed, the river level has risen and fallen. Now it is falling.”
Last Friday (16), the SGB warned that the level of the Acre River was at 1,399 cm and continued to rise, with the possibility of exceeding the flood level in Rio Branco in the next few hours, which actually occurred. Real-time monitoring can be followed by the Acre River Basin Hydrological Alert System (SAH Acre).
