An official identified as Deiker Johandri Rodríguez was murdered during an intelligence operation by the Bolivarian National Police Corps (Cpnb) in the Caricuao parish, west of Caracas.
The officer was shot in the face while participating in an undercover action against an alleged drug trafficking gang.
The incident occurred in block 28 of the aforementioned parish, around 3 pm on Friday, when Rodríguez approached a home as part of the investigation.
Officials from the Strategic Intelligence Division (DIE), to which the murdered officer belonged, were carrying out the operation.
According to the preliminary report, the police officer was discovered, which led to an exchange of shots.
Seriously injured, he was transferred to the Caricuao Maternal Hospital, where he was admitted with compromised vital signs. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the official died minutes after his admission.
According to information on social networks, the police commissions were activated and a confrontation arose, but the criminal managed to evade the uniformed officers.
Relatives of the victim confirmed that the official was the eldest son of Francisco Rodríguez, known as “Kid” Rodríguez, current pitching coach of the Tiburones de La Guaira in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (Lvbp).
