Alert on the south coast: Anomalous waves on the Arequipa coast

The Peruvian Navy, through the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN), warned about the arrival of anomalous waves along the Peruvian coast, which will also affect the southern coast of the country, including the Arequipa region.

According to special notice No. 02-26, the southern coast, included from San Juan de Marcona to Tacna, will register light waves from the southwest starting in the afternoon of Monday January 19a condition that will be maintained until Friday the 23rd.

According to the maritime entity, the impact will be greater on open or semi-open beaches oriented towards the northwest, so regional and local governments, port captains and companies linked to activities were recommended to adopt preventive measures to avoid accidents or material damage.

He specified that within this classification, the sea will present wave heights by up to 50% more about its normal characteristics.

It is worth mentioning that this provision must be complied with by the Mollendo Captaincy, which includes four coves, one port and five ports. The General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guard (DICAPI) will evaluate whether there is a closure.
