Norwegian media rejected the decision made by María Corina Machado to present the Nobel Peace Prize medal to US President Donald Trump.
Analysts and parties of different political tendencies criticized the “lack of respect” of the Venezuelan opponent.
Qualifiers such as “pathetic”, “unusual” or “ridiculous” are part of the palette of opinions reviewed.
The Nobel Peace Center published a clarification on the transfer of the award.
“A medal can change owners, but the title of Nobel Peace Prize cannot,” says a message published on networks without referring to any of the protagonists of this story.
Meanwhile, the White House announced the awarding of the medal on social networks. It was framed with gold trim, in a photo where Trump appears smiling, holding the painting with both hands and Machado at his side.
The opposition leader met with the US president this past Thursday at a private lunch at the White House.
Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize last month in Oslo, Norway.
Analysts viewed the opposition leader’s political move with disbelief.
“It is unlikely that Machado’s desperate and humiliating game will succeed and will forever leave a bad taste in the mouth at this award ceremony,” says an article published in Dagbladet (El Diario).
“Even though Trump has received the medal, that does not mean that he has won the Peace Prize,” former Foreign Minister and liberal MP Ine Eriksen Søreide told Norwegian public television NRK.
