The morning of this Saturday January 17, 2026 was marked by tragedy in the municipality of Duitama, Boyacáafter a serious train accident that left a deceased pregnant womana minor injured and several people affected.
According to official information provided by the Duitama Mayor’s Officethe accident involved a train operated by the Belén Railway Consortiumwhich apparently presented the uncoupling of two wagons during its operation. These became uncontrolled and advanced uncontrollably along the urban railway.
According to the statement from the municipal administration, the journey of the wagons began in market square sectorwhere one of them hit a private vehicle. On this first point, the authorities confirmed that no injuries were recordedalthough there is material damage.
However, the situation became critical when the wagons continued their movement to the hospital roundabout areawhere the most serious event occurred.
“Unfortunately, as a result of this event, the death of a pregnant woman is confirmed. Likewise, a minor was transferred to a healthcare center where he is currently receiving medical attention. Additionally, an assistant to the operator suffered injuries and is under evaluation,” reported the Duitama Mayor’s Office.
After the accident, relief agencies, traffic authorities and emergency units They immediately went to the affected points to treat the victims, cordon off the risk areas and guarantee the safety of the citizens.
From the municipal administration they indicated that they are already moving forward actions to clarify what happenedincluding the review of security cameras, the collection of testimonies and the installation of a inter-institutional working table with all competent entities.
