A trombonist died and 14 injured in a massive accident involving a Cuban musical group

The Cuban Institute of Music mourned the death of the young Cuban musician José Luis Reyes Luis, a 26-year-old trombonist.

LIMA, Peru – One death and 14 injuries were the result of a mass traffic accident that involved the members of a musical group that was making an interprovincial trip this Saturday on the national highway.

The Cuban News Agency (ACN) reports that the accident occurred at approximately 9:00 am at kilometer 249 of the National Highway, near the province of Villa Clara.

A Chapa brand minibus, with license plate W008980, which was heading from Havana to the province of Camagüey, suffered an overturn after several rolls, according to the preliminary report from the authorities.

For its part, the Cuban Institute of Music mourned the death of the young Cuban musician José Luis Reyes Luis, a 26-year-old trombonist, victim of the accident.

The driver of the damaged vehicle admitted that the direct cause of the accident was having fallen asleep at the wheel, which caused the total loss of control of the unit.

Those affected, all members of the musical group “Velito, el Bufón”, received first aid and initial clinical evaluation at the “Juan Bautista Contreras Foule” Polyclinic in the municipality of Ranchuelo.

According to the report, they were then transferred preventively to the “Arnaldo Milián Castro” Clinical Surgical Hospital in Santa Clara to continue with specialized medical care and observation, all of whom were reported to be in mild condition.

Lieutenant Colonel Heriberto López Pérez de Prado, head of the Provincial Transit Unit in Villa Clara, confirmed the categorization of the event as a massive accident, based on the significant number of victims involved.

The national bodies of the Cuban regime have identified Villa Clara as one of the territories with the most critical behavior in road safety matterafter increasing its accident rate by more than a third during the past year.

According to official statistics, the province closed the year 2025 with a total of more than 500 traffic accidents, a figure that represents an increase of nearly a hundred accidents compared to the same period of the previous year.
