Santo Domingo.– The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) investigates the circumstances in which two haitian nationals they launched themselves from a truck institutional and managed to escape last Thursday, during a security operation immigration interdiction. The incident was spread and viralized through social networks.
The institution explained that it has arranged disciplinary sanctions against those responsible for the interdiction team acting, because, at the time of the operation, the truck involved was not being adequately guarded.
In that sense, the immigration entity announced that said vehicle is part of the old institutional fleet and does not have all the security measures recommended for the transfer of detained people.
Migration specified that, unlike these units, in April 2025, the president Luis Abinader delivered 50 trucks and eight buses to the DGM as part of the strengthening of immigration control operations, elevating 118 units the fleet destined for these tasks.
“The DGM is taking measures to correct these weaknesses by training personnel, supervising compliance with action protocols and renewing the vehicle fleet, a process that is carried out gradually due to the cost of the project, with the aim of guaranteeing greater security during immigration interdiction operations,” said the vice admiral. Lee Ballester.
Ballester added that, “with the support of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, we have acquired new closed trucks with air conditioning, which guarantee greater privacy and security for migrants.”
The incorporation of new units has made it possible to improve interdiction logistics, the transfer of detainees to detention centers and the subsequent deportation of people in an irregular immigration situation. for the year 2026the institutional budget contemplates new acquisitions to continue progressively replacing obsolete trucks with more modern and adequate units.
They reiterated that the case remains under investigation and reaffirmed their commitment to security in operations, immigration control and strengthening their procedures, in order to prevent similar events in the future.
