Police defend information handling in case of girl Brianna Genao

TO 17 days of the disappearance of the girl Brianna Genaothe spokesperson for the National PoliceColonel Diego Pesqueira, responded to the complaints expressed by some journalists and media about the slowness in the provision of official information related to the case.

Pesqueira explained that the research about missing persons, especially when they involve minorsrequire highly responsible management of the information so as not to affect the course of the investigations or the work of the Public Ministry, which are carried out with the support of national organizations and in international collaboration.

“I understand the responsibility that have the media and the influencers or content creators to inform, as well as ours to keep citizens duly informed. However, it is important to remember that missing persons cases are highly delicate,” said the police spokesperson.

Hinder investigations

The spokesperson warned that the early disclosure of unconfirmed data or the issuance of hasty conclusions could hinder the work of prosecutors and investigators.

“Are research require time and a responsible management of the information. Advance data or issue conclusions before the authorities conclude their work could affect the work of the prosecutors and investigators“said the officer.

Pesqueira assured that the authorities maintain their commitment with the transparency and the accountabilitybut reiterated that all information will be offered as the research and when the process allows it.

“All information will be offered in the opportune momentrespecting the due process and the sensitivity of the case,” he pointed out.

The case of the disappearance of the girl Brianna Genaowhich occurred on December 31 in the Barrero community, municipality of Imbert, Puerto Plata province, remains under investigation by the National Police and the Public Ministry, with the technical collaboration of personnel from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), attached to the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo, without conclusive results having been officially reported so far.
