Deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of the constitutional president kidnapped on January 3, assured that the event has turned his father into a symbol of resistance against fascism and imperialism.
During a meeting of the Network of Jurists for the release of the presidential family, held at the Teresa Carreño TheaterMaduro Guerra highlighted that both Nicolás Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores embody loyalty and firmness in the face of disproportionate military aggression. “When people talk about loyalty in the world, they will talk about Nicolás Maduro Moros as a firm and loyal man to the Venezuelan people and to the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías,” he said.
Reporting violations of international law
The deputy stressed that the armed invasion of a foreign army, without a declaration of war, and the kidnapping of a head of State constitute a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and the immunities guaranteed by international law.
Maduro Guerra warned that the murder of civilians unrelated to the conflict and the forced transfer of hostages are events that put the international legal system in crisis.
Call for unity and legal action
Despite the military attack, he pointed out that Venezuela maintains its constitutional thread under the leadership of the acting president Delcy Rodríguez. In this sense, he asked to preserve peace and unity, advance economically and guarantee sovereignty while working to free the hostages.
Likewise, he proposed to the jurists present to draft a consensus document to denounce the violations committed, create an independent commission that tours international organizations and parliaments, and convene in February an international meeting of jurists in Caracas to turn the capital into the epicenter of the defense of international law.
