The Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the collaborator of the Iberoamerican University of Puebla, Leonardo Arial Escobar Barrioswas located in the municipality of Juárez, after reports of his disappearance.
“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the security authorities of the state and the federation, the citizen of Colombia, Leonardo Ariel Escobar Barrios, was located alive in the municipality of Juárez, NL“, the department published on the social network X in a brief notice in which it did not offer more details about the professor’s conditions.
The authorities responded to the request of the Jesuit University System who reported the disappearance of Escobar Barrios on January 2 in the municipality of Apodaca, Nuevo León.
After confirming the professor’s discovery, the Ibero de Puebla published a statement in which it thanked the support.
This Monday morning, the head of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuchdetailed that federal and state authorities were carrying out investigations related to the disappearance of the Colombian professor.
During the morning conference of the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, held in Ecatepec, Edomex, García Harfuch explained that the academic had previously been detained for administrative offenses and placed at the disposal of a civic court, where he remained for around 36 hours.
“Subsequently, he is released and, from that moment on, there is testimony that they see him wandering around the area. That is the last visual contact that has been had so far,” explained the federal official.
The Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection added that surveillance cameras had captured the teacher visibly disoriented, which coincides with the reports collected until the morning of this Friday, January 16.
