The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Dias Toffoli extended the investigations for another 60 days, as part of inquiry 5026, which is being carried out under secrecy in the Federal District and is investigating irregularities in the purchase of Banco Master by Banco de Brasília (BRB). The minister responded to a request from the Federal Police (PF), which is investigating the case.
Furthermore, the minister ordered the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to be notified of the continuity of the investigations.
PF investigations indicate that the embezzlement scheme in the bank’s operations could reach R$12 billion, with the issuance of Bank Deposit Certificates (CDBs) without backing. Master even promised customers up to 40% above the basic market rate.
The police are also investigating the participation of BRB leaders in the scheme. In March last year, a bank from Brasilia announced the purchase of Master. The operation was approved by the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha. The deal was blocked by the Central Bank (BC), which found irregularities in the documents presented by Master to ensure the solidity of its portfolio.
“Having said that, I consider that the reasons given for the extension, for another 60 (sixty) days, must be granted. The Attorney General’s Office is notified”, Toffoli said.
On Wednesday (14), the PF new phase of Operation Compliance Zero launched to investigate, once again, the Banco Master of businessman Daniel Vorcaro.
Authorities are investigating criminal organization crimes, fraudulent management of a financial institution, market manipulation and money laundering. Among the authorized measures are the seizure and blocking of assets and values in excess of R$5.7 billion.
