The Special Electoral Jury (JEE) of Cusco declared inadmissible the candidacy of the congressman of Popular Action, Luis Aragón, who intended to run for the Chamber of Deputies through the ranks of Country Advances.
The parliamentarian’s re-election aspirations have been truncated by the entity’s decision, since his registration on the Avanza País list has been rejected because the legislator does not have valid authorization from his party of origin (Popular Action) to run for a different group.
And, after the denunciation of irregularities in the Popular Action primaries, the political organization was left out of the general elections and the party leaders agreed not to grant licenses to its members to run with other groups.
Despite this prohibition, Aragón presented an “authorization” signed by the legal representative of Acción Popular. However, the JEE rejected and invalidated said document.
“The legal representative represents the organization before the JNE, but does not have the power to grant authorizations of this type. This power falls exclusively on the Secretary General or the competent authority according to the statute,” the electoral court ruled.
In addition to the affiliation problem, the JEE detected irregularities in the Avanza País list for Cusco. It was observed that Luis Aragón intended to take the place of a militant who had already been elected in the internal elections of said group.
The president of the party, Aldo Borrero, tried to remedy this fact by presenting the resignation of the original candidate and appointing him elsewhere, but the JEE considered this a violation of the rights of the militants who voted in the Avanza País primaries.
