Both the dredging of Laguna Merín and the construction of the second bridge over the Yaguarón River are two binational works that will mark a before and after for the country, for the entire department of Cerro Largo, but fundamentally for the 3rd Section.
From the Mixed Technical Commission of the Laguna Merín Basin, they are looking forward to the start of the work.
The dredging will make the two ports that are planned for the Uruguayan side begin to operate. It should be remembered that one would be located on the Tacuarí River in Cerro Largo and the other on the Cebollatí River, on the border of the departments of Treinta y Tres and Rocha.
“These ports would serve to transport merchandise, bring and take to Brazil, arriving at the Port of Río Grande” said Paul Beck.
“To reach the Port of Río Grande through Laguna Merín we need to dredge, that is, to remove sand to deepen channels that allow the navigability of the barges that will transport these merchandises” he added.

SECOND BRIDGE OVER YAGUARON
“The work would start this year. It is a 416-meter-long bridge, a work that would last two years, which Brazil does and pays for, so good relations are important. Here, the Foreign Ministry and we have also had meetings with the authorities directly involved in the execution of the bridge work.” he remarked.

Pablo Beck recalled that the Maúa international bridge is where the largest amount of both import and export merchandise crosses. “It is not through Aceguá, nor through Rivera nor through Chuy, it is through Río Branco” he stressed.
