The United States approved an agreement for US$1.5 billion to finance the equipment and modernization of the Callao naval base, the country’s main naval installation, as reported by the Department of State.

The project contemplates that up to 20 officials from the US government or the private sector can move to the country for a period of up to 10 years, with the objective of supporting the implementation and operation of the acquired equipment.

Washington also recalled that it maintains a historic security partnership with Peru, within the framework of which Congress has authorized the presence of North American military personnel on previous occasions.
