The intense rains recorded on the afternoon of this Thursday, January 15, caused the activation of a landslide in the La Yesera ravine, leaving several vehicles stranded, roads interrupted and the province of Caravelí practically isolated.
The drop of mud and stones surprised drivers, especially workers in the mining sector, leaving the trucks trapped. According to the local authority, the huaico interrupted the AR-104 roadleaving thousands of inhabitants incommunicado.
Given the emergency, the Civil Defense platform of the Provincial Municipality of Caravelí announced the deployment of heavy machinery to restore traffic, once the intensity of the rains decreases.

In this regard, the provincial mayor, Roberto Soto, warned that the magnitude of the huaico has exceeded the local response capacity, considering that the same situation is repeated every year. “The provincial capital has been divided in two; they have been isolated and there is this fear because the rainy season is going to continue”he told Correo.

REQUEST TO THE GOVERNMENT
Faced with the emergency in the province, the mayor made an urgent call to the Executive, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Provías, to accelerate the execution of a definitive bridge in the La Yesera ravinein order to avoid running out of water or supplies during the rainy season.
As for the Regional Government of Arequipa, it requested its intervention to provide support to the affected families, such as blankets, blankets, plastic for homes and more.
