The first preview of the hotel occupancy survey in the capital of Rio de Janeiro for Carnival projects that the average occupancy rate for the period from February 14th to 17th is 73.91%. The data was released this Thursday (15) by the Accommodation Union of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (HotéisRIO).
The regions with the highest occupancy rates during the Momo celebrations so far are Centro (83.74%), Ipanema/Leblon (81.10%), Leme/Copacabana (78.80%), Flamengo/Botafogo (78.30%) and Barra/Recreio/São Conrado (63.90%).
The president of HotéisRIO, Alfredo Lopes, commented that Carnival is the main party in Rio de Janeiro, when compared to New Year’s Eve, due to the longer stay of guests.
“This longer stay results in full hotels and good results for the tourism chain – bars, restaurants and shopping malls – with benefits for the city’s revenue”, he stated.
Alfredo Lopes recalled that last year’s Carnival attracted almost 300,000 international tourists to Brazil, the majority of whom were Argentines (41.2%), who chose Rio de Janeiro as their main destination.
“This year, we already foresee a growth in international tourists of around 18% and we should repeat last year’s hotel occupancy, which was 98.62%”, concluded the president of HotéisRIO.
