THE President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva coordinated a meeting this Thursday morning (15), at Palácio do Planalto, with ministers, members of the Judiciary and heads of investigative bodies to discuss the fight against organized crime.
“There was a decision by the President of the Republic, shared by all these actors, to raise the status of State action, the fight against organized crime. So the relevance that organized crime assumed at that time imposes, in the perception of the president and all these actors, the need for joint action by all State bodies”, he stated the new Minister of Justice, Wellington Lima e Silva, in an interview with journalistsafter the meeting.
The meeting brought together the vice-president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin; the vice-president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes; the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad; the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Wellington César Lima e Silva; the president of the Central Bank (BC), Gabriel Galípolo; the head of the Federal Revenue, Robinson Barreirinhas; the director general of the Federal Police (PF), Andrei Rodrigues; the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet; the minister of the Social Communication Secretariat, Sidônio Palmeira; and the executive secretary of Finance, Dario Durigan.
The meeting takes place amid the Banco Master scandal, which investigates deviations in the financial system to supply the personal assets of those being investigated.
The case is investigated by the PF and PGR, is being processed by the STF and involved a process of liquidation of the Master by the Central Bank.
According to Lima e Silva, the authorities discussed the issue of combating organized crime as an “axis” of State action, and did not deal with specific cases.
“I think there is a realization that the size of the problem justifies and deserves a combination of efforts on this scale,” the minister told reporters. He was accompanied by the general director of the PF, Andrei Rodrigues.
Later this Thursday, Lima e Silva should meet again with President Lula, accompanied by former minister Ricardo Lewandowski, for a symbolic inauguration ceremony.
Afterwards, he will speak to the press again to highlight the priorities of his management at the head of the department.
