The arrival of tourists to Peru increases, but the pre-pandemic level has not yet recovered

From the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) They reported that, at the end of 2025, Peru received 4,157,469 international visitors, a figure that represented a growth of 4.1% compared to 2024 and a recovery of 78.8% compared to pre-pandemic levels. However, it is important to highlight that the entry of tourists to the country from some markets has already recovered pre-pandemic levels: Brazil (+9.5%), Bolivia (+2.6%), China PR (+7.3%), Costa Rica (+15.3%), Poland (+42.6%), Dominican Republic (+55.5%)among others.

This performance confirms sustained progress in the tourism sector and the strengthening of the country’s positioning on the international stage, however many details still need to be refined to achieve progress on par with our South American neighbors and other leading countries in tourism.

It is worth mentioning that in Peru, of the total international visitors, 3,416,464 million corresponded to tourists and 741,005 to excursionists, with tourists accounting for 82.2% of the total flow, which shows a solid recovery of inbound tourism. In year-on-year terms, the arrival of international tourists grew 4.9%, with an additional flow of close to 160 thousand tourists compared to 2024 and a recovery of 78.1% compared to the figure for 2019.

“The growth of international tourism confirms that Peru is advancing steadily in its recovery process. From the Government of the President of the Republic, José Jerí, we maintain a clear commitment to strengthening tourism as an engine of economic development, employment and generation of opportunities for Peruvians”said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Teresa Mera.

ISSUE MARKETS AND OUTBOUND TOURISM

According to the Mincetur Monthly Tourism ReportAs for the sending markets, South America concentrated 58.8% of the total international visitors, followed by North America (19.7%) and Europe (14.4%), blocks that together explained more than 92% of the total arrivals to the country. Chile remained the main issuing market, with 1,281,858 visitors, followed by the United States (628,720), Ecuador (347,373), Bolivia (227,660), Brazil (222,186) and Colombia (193,468).

The entry of international visitors was concentrated mainly through the Jorge Chávez International Airport, which channeled 56% of the total, followed by the main border control posts in the south and north of the country, which shows the strategic role of air and land connectivity in the recovery of the sector.

On the other hand, outbound tourism also showed positive performance. Between January and December 2025, 4,112,096 Peruvian resident visitors (3,395,361 Peruvian tourists and 716,735 resident excursionists) traveled abroad, registering a growth of 7.5% compared to 2024 and a level 13.2% higher than that registered in 2019, confirming the full reactivation of international travel.
