The two main maternity wards of Greater Santo Domingo recorded a decrease of 51.1 million pesos in their bills after the implementation of the protocol for hospital care for foreign patients, which began on April 21, 2024.
Seen separately, the San Lorenzo Maternity of Los Mina recorded a 63% reduction in public spending destined for childbirth care during the period April-December 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, going from 50,931,000.78 pesos to 18,718,282.66 pesos in 2025, a difference of 32.2 million.
According to institutional data, between April and December 2024, 4,901 birthsof which 2,512 (51%) corresponded to foreign mothers and 2,389 (49%) to dominican mothersnoticing a predominance of parturientsespecially, from Haiti on the local ones.
In contrast, during the period April-December 2025, 3,338 birthsreflecting a reduction in total volume. Of these, 923 (27.7%) were from foreign mothers and 2,415 (72.3%) from dominican mothers.
The application of hospital protocol led to an important change in the composition of births in this health center, with a greater predominance of dominican mothers in 2025.
“The results contribute to better optimization of resources and strengthen the planning of maternal and child services offered to the population,” highlighted the hospital management through a press document.
27.31% in the Maternity Altagracia
A similar behavioralthough to a lesser extent, had already been registered in the Our Lady of Altagracia Maternitywith a reduction of public spending at 27.31%.
Between April and December 2024, the hospital allocated 69,458,416.14 pesos to these services, while, in the same period of 2025, the expense was 50,482,581.49 pesos, which represents a saving of 18.9 million. During 2025, the hospital recorded 4,738 births.

Of the total deliveries, 3,286 corresponded to Dominican patients (70.5%) and 1,375 to foreigners (29.5%).
In contrast, during the year 2024they occurred 7,592 birthsof which 3,425 were from foreign patients (45%).
This represents a reduction of 2,050 births to women of other nationalities, equivalent to one 59.85% less in relation to the previous year.
In Higüey

The proportion of mothers of Dominican origin remained similar with 315 birthsa difference of 14 compared to the 2024 data.
