Moquegua: They guarantee water supply for human consumption and agriculture

In its capacity as major operator, the Pasto Grande Regional Special Project, the executing agency of the Regional Government of Moquegua, reported today that it guarantees the supply of water resources for human consumption and agricultural activity in the Moquegua region.

The supply is ensured with the discharge carried out from the Pasto Grande reservoir, which, as of today, registers 139 million cubic meters (MMC) of stored reserve, of which 132.55 MMC is considered useful to meet the demand of the different users.

Rains recharge the dam

The coordinator of the Operation and Maintenance area of the Pasto Grande Hydraulic System, Elvis Chachaque Quispe, reported that at the moment the rainfall in the areas surrounding the dam and tributary rivers is still sporadic and is expected to increase in the following days.

“With the water that is stored, the supply to the population and agriculture in the corresponding volume is guaranteed, but the idea is that the dam recharges to its maximum capacity of 200 MMC, like last year,” said the professional.

Precipitation until the 16th

According to SENAMHI Notice No. 10, from today until Friday, January 16, rains of moderate to regular intensity will occur in high areas of the districts of Carumas, San Cristóbal and Cuchumbaya, in the Mariscal Nieto province; as well as in the districts of Ichuña, Ubinas, Yunga, Lloque, Chojata, Matalaque, Quinistaquilla, Coalaque, Puquina and La Capilla, in the Sánchez Cerro province. The goal is for the reservoir to begin recharging.

They also reported that PERPG personnel also constantly monitor the meteorological situation in the intermediate part, reporting a slight increase in the flow of the Tumilaca, Torata and Huaracane rivers. In Otora, a flow of 8m3/sec was recorded at 8:30 p.m., which is why the canal gates were closed. Later, at 2 a.m. today, the water supply to users was restored. The mentioned rivers maintain their normal flow.
