The zarzuela Cecilia Valdés by maestro Gonzalo Roig returns to the stage of the Teatro Martí on March 24, 25 and 26 at seven in the evening and on Sunday 27 at five in the afternoon.
With staging and art direction by Daniel Noriega, the performance celebrates the 90th anniversary of its premiere and pays tribute to the centenary of Cuban radio.
The musical direction will be by Maestro Igor Corcuera, at the head of the National Concert Band, while the choral parts are in charge of the Choir of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television under the direction of Maestro Liagne Reina. The participation of the Laura Alonso Company of the Prodanza Center also stands out.
This staging rescues the libretto, fragments and musical pieces of the original, premiered on March 26, 1932 at the Teatro Martí itself.
In the roles of Cecilia Valdés the sopranos Kirenia Corzo and Marta Elisa Cuesta will be presented, while Leonardo de Gamboa will be assumed by the tenors Humberto Bernal, Bernardo Lichilín and Armando Hernández; together with consecrated and novel figures of the lyrical genre.
With the collaboration of the Office of the City Historian, the National Concert Music Center, the National Lyric Theater of Cuba, the CMBF radio station and the Prodanza Center, the scheduled performances will also pay tribute to the 140th anniversary of the publication of the novel namesake of Cirilo Villaverde.
