Senamhi issues red alert in 15 regions due to intense rains and risk of landslides

He National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) issued a red alert in 15 regions of the country due to the occurrence of heavy rains planned for the next few days.

According to the official bulletin, rainfall significantly increases the risk of huaicos, activation of streams, landslides and floodsespecially in vulnerable areas of the coast and central mountains.

Regions in extreme danger level

Among the regions considered in extreme danger level appear Lime, Cajamarca, Freedom, Mother of God and Fistamong others.

Senamhi also warned that the meteorological event includes thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 45 km/hwhich could aggravate risk conditions.

Rímac River under permanent surveillance

In Lima, the Rímac river is located under constant monitoring. According to the hydrological station of Chosicathe current flow is 25.8 cubic meters per seconda level considered normal for the rainy season.

However, Senamhi warned that the flow could increase rapidly if the rains intensify in the upper river basin. For it to be declared red alert in the Rímacthe flow must exceed the 120 m³/s.

The authorities urged the population living in coastal areas to stay informed and apply preventive measures.

Prevention and response actions

He National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) and the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) have already been alerted and have disseminated recommendations aimed at local governments and citizens.

The red alert represents the maximum danger level in the Senamhi monitoring system and demands immediate actionssuch as preventive evacuations, home protection and property insurance.

Districts with housing and infrastructure close to rivers, such as Chaclacayo and Chosica, are among the areas most exposed to possible overflows.

Recurrent risk in rainy season

Senamhi recalled that every year, during this season, the increase in rainfall in the mountains and the jungle generates emergencies in different regions of the country, which is why he insisted on prevention and permanent coordination between authorities and population.
