Colorados remembered Rivera 172 years after his death
Leaders of the Colorado Party, including the candidate for Mayor in the last departmental election, remembered Brigadier General Fructuoso Rivera with a wreath that was placed on the monolith located in the BIO Parque de Melo.
On January 13, 1854, who had been the First Constitutional President of Uruguay, died on the banks of the Conventos stream on the ranch of his friend Bartolo Silva.
“We were accompanied by Miguel Suárez and another bar that arrived earlier and others who are going to come in the morning run” highlighted the Dr. Rodrigo Rivero Ávila.
“We completed the placement of that wreath and now we are here at the ranch, this ranch that a few days ago we were also celebrating with a militant friendly group” commented to THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL.
“They are small milestones that we are generating, that were demanded by our political community and that for some time we have been trying to contemplate” considered.
Far from the electoral campaign, a very close race and a heated Departmental Convention where Rivero Ávila ended up being proclaimed as the candidate for Mayor, political activity continued. “We said that we were going to remain faithful to our style, raising the flag of the Colorado Party. This is testimony to that, today we are here and we will continue” he committed.
He said that they are already thinking about the inauguration of the remodeling of the ranch where Rivera died. The idea is to organize a large activity, which will even have some surprises. “We believe that these are the things that make the Colorado Party re-emerge, that that red vigor returns. Time after time and work” he stated.
It had been a long time since Colorado leaders had met to recognize one of their main figures. “Miguel and many others who are from the old guard of Heber Da Rosa, remember that there was the Colorado Party until Heber died. Then everything began to fall. That feeling is sad. That the Colorado Party has been abandoned for more than 20 years speaks clearly that there was no such feeling of unity. Today we are starting with that principle that is fundamental, which is to achieve unity. That will be what will mark the continuity because the people, the political actors and the referents are passing by and what remains is that feeling of unity. That “We are achieving it with this type of activities” expressed Rodrigo Rivero.
It is intended that little by little the Colorado Party will return to the place it occupied until not so long ago in the departmental political spectrum, being the second political force after the National Party. “We want to return to the Departmental Board so that it can have greater public viewing. It costs a lot, but we are achieving it. We are really enjoying the journey and raising this red flag that makes us feel so proud” said.
“We will have the obligation and duty to recognize great men and women who, with great works, have carved the history of the country with fire.” he pointed out.
The reopening of the ranch where General Rivera died at the BIO Parque de Melo will take place before the end of the summer. “The idea is to do it no later than March because then the weather changes abruptly. We want to do it with natural light to bring front-line figures of the Party” advancement. “We are talking with Manuel Flores Silva -Manolo- who is an inveterate student of Artiguista and Riverism work.
