The Left does not want improvements in Petroperú and points to interpellations

In a joint session of the Energy and Mines and Andean Peoples commissions of Congress, left-wing parliamentarians showed their interest in the repeal of emergency decree 010-2025, which proposes the reorganization of Petroperu.

Private Competitiveness Council revealed that the amount for personnel and social obligations increased by more than S/500 million.

During the meeting, the legislators claimed to be against the privatization of the company – something that is not stated in the law – and proposed an interpellation and subsequent censure against the Minister of Energy and Mines, Luis Enrique Bravo. They also want to question the Minister of Economy and Finance, Denisse Miralles, on this issue.

Part of the arguments of the congressmen to oppose the urgent changes needed by the public company that costs Peru millions of soles, is that there is a “surrender logic” that would take the oil company into private hands.

Even congresswoman María Agüero from Perú Libre assured that the Petroperú crisis “is surmountable and is demonstrated with statistics (which she did not show during her intervention).” Furthermore, as if fuel prices were based on the state price, he assured that the reorganization would mean an increase in the costs of products such as vegetables.

Along the same lines, his bench colleague, Isaac Mita, stated that it is “false” that the public company is bankrupt”, and that on the contrary he stated that, “the State owes it.” Something that the legislator forgot to mention is that only in 2025, and with figures as of October, the company recorded losses of more than S/1,600 million.

For his part, Eduardo Salhuana (APP) pointed out that an evaluation is needed of what should be done with a company that has “serious financial problems.” Therefore, it was asked if it is positive for it to continue operating.

Likewise, Mery Infantes (FP) indicated that it is necessary to make an evaluation of the golden payrolls that exist in Petroperú and the expenses involved in having assets such as “a 22-story building in Lima (San Isidro).”
