A public cleaning worker was seriously injured after being run over by a van that then fled at the intersection of Huancavelica Avenue and Jirón Puno, in the city of Huancayo, around 11:40 p.m. on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Jessica Dávila (44), who was carrying out sweeping work when she was hit by a tourist transport unit. Serenos found her lying on the central berm with intense pain in her right leg and helped her immediately, taking her first to the Ortega clinic and then to the EsSalud hospital, where she remained under observation.
After the accident, a joint operation was deployed between Serenazgo and the National Police, managing to locate the van allegedly involved, license plate A1B-770, abandoned at the intersection of Tacna and Loreto, with the doors and windows open.
Minutes later, a man in his 60s showed up at the Central Police Station stating that his vehicle had been stolen. However, the victim’s colleagues recognized him as the driver who minutes before had arrived at the scene of the accident to ask about the worker’s health, so he was detained while the investigations continue.
