Diplomats from the EU, the United Kingdom and Switzerland meet with Delcy Rodríguez in Caracas

Foreign Minister Yván Gil assured that the Venezuelan government seeks to promote a dialogue based on respect and equality between States; after the acting president Delcy Rodríguez met with diplomats from the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom and Switzerland, in Caracas.

“The president in charge has transmitted a very clear message that within the framework of respect, within the framework of the equality of States, we are willing to advance a new agenda, an intense agenda of work for the well-being of both peoples, of all the peoples of Europe and of Venezuela,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement released in social networks.

The meeting, which took place at the Miraflores Palace, included the participation of the President of Parliament Jorge Rodríguez, and the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello. Gil described the meeting as “frank, cordial, pleasant” and highlighted the intention of opening “ever deeper avenues of dialogue.”

“I believe that starting today a very interesting stage of dialogue, construction, and cooperation in all areas of the life of our countries begins and that will surely benefit our people. We reaffirm the will of the Bolivarian government to work hand in hand and under diplomatic principles with all the people of the world,” he added.

EU and allies seek peaceful dialogue after Maduro’s capture

The EU, which already maintained contacts with Venezuelan authorities, reaffirmed its intention to continue negotiating with Rodríguez to “safeguard its interests and defend its principles.”

After the US operation that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Brussels called for “calm and moderation of all actors, in order to avoid an escalation and guarantee a peaceful solution to the crisis,” as well as respect for international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

For its part, the United Kingdom emphasized the need for a “peaceful transition” to democracy, urging the international community to act together. While, Switzerland froze Maduro’s assets and his associates as a preventive measure against the “volatile situation” derived from his capture.
