The Senate approved, this afternoon (16), a bill (PL) that establishes protective measures for elderly people who have suffered violence or are on the verge of suffering it. The project inserts a new chapter in the Elderly Statute to guarantee priority in service with the police. This, in turn, must notify the judge immediately, so that he can decide within 48 hours on the adoption of appropriate protective measures. The project goes to the Chamber.
According to the approved text, among the appropriate protective measures are restrictions on the aggressor, such as removal from the house where the elderly person lives and suspension or restriction of the carrying of their firearm, if any. The project’s rapporteur, Nilda Gondim (MDB-PB), made a parallel between the situation of the elderly and that of a woman victim of domestic violence.
“Strictly speaking, the PL provides, for the elderly in situations of violence, the protective measures that already occur when the victim is a woman in a situation of domestic violence. This measure is essential to promote the effective protection of the elderly, who are often as vulnerable as women who suffer domestic violence”.
