Áncash: More than 12 sinkholes and illegal mining camps found

Following a complaint about illegal mining activities, this weekend the existence of more than 12 sinkholes and informal mining camps was confirmed, after the intervention in the “La Fortuna” concession, located in the Huanchuy sector, Quillo district, Yungay province, Áncash.

The action was carried out by the Santa Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, corroborating previous information obtained through consultation with the Áncash Regional Directorate of Energy and Mines.

In the operation, the extraction of apparently gold oreused as a ‘search’, as well as the use of explosives. They also intervened on Víctor Milla and Edgar Milla, who were transporting bags of mineral on donkeys, without providing authorization.

During the intervention, 79 bags of gold ore were seized, 5 generator setsvarious tools, rustic camps, 10 pack animals (donkeys) and 15 operational explosives and detonators.

At the end of the action, we proceeded with the prohibition of sinkholesdestruction of the mining bags and the inoperability of the equipment. The case is being investigated for the crime of illegal mining.

The intervention activities were carried out in conjunction with the police personnel of the Casma Sector Police Station.
