Chief of Staff states that "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE" curb crime before elections

The wave of hitmen and extortion in Peru continues to grow and terrorize more citizens every day, something that “is impossible” to stop before the elections 2026as the premier himself admitted.

The Chief of Staff acknowledged that José Jerí’s management will not be able to stop the crime that continues to take over the national territory “in the next three or four months.”

Despite having recognized the current Government’s inability to stop crimes, the “National Security Plan” was presented that will outline the route to “build a much safer country for everyone.”

“It is impossible to prevent criminal gangs from acting in the next three or four months,” Premier Ernesto Álvarez admitted to Correo, while adding that this would be the task of the next administration.

In that sense, the prime minister recalled that “as President José Jerí has ​​said, we started the battle (against crime), but the war will have to be won by the following governments.”

“It seems very unfair to me that former directors, former generals of the Police or even former Ministers of the Interior harshly criticize when, in reality, they should have strengthened the PNP and the intelligence services.”

Homicides increased in the Jerí Government:

Homicides in Peru not only do not stop, but continue to increase during the administration of President José Jerí, according to the National Information System of Deaths (Sinadef).

“The daily average of homicides recorded during the Government of José Jerí increases to 5.56 (and with still cases to be added),” analyst Juan Carbajal announced at the beginning of December.

To measure the aforementioned figure, the aforementioned expert compared the rates of the last Peruvian governments and found that the current one has the highest number of murders since 2017.

The PPK management had a daily average of 1.88 homicides, that of Martín Vizcarra 2.87, Manuel Merino 2.67, Francisco Sagasti 3.62, Pedro Castillo 4.22, Dina Boluarte 2.25 and José Jerí 5.56.
