Santo Domingo.- With 23 votes in favor and two against, the Senate approved in a single reading a loan contract for up to 100 million dollars, destined to finance the San Cristóbal Sanitation Network Construction Project.
The pro-government legislators alleged that the financing is contained in an agreement signed with the French Development Agency (AFD) and will be executed by the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewers (Inapa).
Although the congressional majority, dominated by Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and its allies, approved the project without obstacles, the senators of the Power of the People They voted against the indebtedness because they considered that the problem of sanitation in Saint Christopher It will not be resolved, as happens with other works for which loans are taken.

According to the approved document, The general objective of the project is to sustainably improve the health, socioeconomic and environmental situation of the municipality of San Cristóbal, with an estimated impact on some 100,000 inhabitants.
The initiative also seeks to position itself as «a nationwide pilot project» in terms of sustainable management of water and sanitation services, as well as sludge management.
Specific objectives of the project include: improving access to public wastewater collection and treatment services.
