President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appointed the executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Manoel Carlos de Almeida Neto, to head the department on an interim basis. The nomination was published this Friday (9) in Official Gazette of the Union.
He temporarily replaces former minister Ricardo Lewandowski, who delivered, on Thursday (8), a letter with resignation to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Lewandowski took office in February 2024 and claimed that personal and family issues led him to make the decision.
“I am convinced that I performed the duties of the position with zeal and dignity, demanding from myself and my collaborators the best possible performance for the benefit of our administrators, considering the political, cyclical and budgetary limitations of the circumstances we are going through”, wrote Lewandowski in the letter.
Interim
Interim minister Manoel Carlos de Almeida Neto was previously secretary general of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and, in 2014, had his name approved by the plenary of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to occupy the position of secretary general of the Court.
Almeida Neto held the position of legal director at Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) for eight years. In the academic field, he was a professor and pursued post-doctorate and doctorate in law at the University of São Paulo (USP).
