Acapulco, Gro., Given the recent statements by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, regarding combating cartels on land, the Chief Executive, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, instructed the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, to contact the Secretary of State of the US government, Marco Rubio, to talk about bilateral security understandings and “that they have all the information about what we are doing in Mexico.”

During his morning conference from this port, he hinted at the possibility of talking with Trump about this bilateral coordination that exists in matters of security.

–What do you think of these statements that will attack the drug cartels on the ground?

–We are going to strengthen communication, that is why I asked Juan Ramón de la Fuente if it is necessary to meet with the Secretary of State. Two or three days ago Rubio spoke about good security coordination with Mexico.

Naval coordination

Later, to an express question about whether the United States deploys actions in Mexico similar to those it has carried out in the Venezuelan territorial sea against vessels from that country, he said that the terms of joint action were recently agreed between the US Coast Guard and Northern Command and the Secretary of the Navy (Semar).

This bilateral understanding allows that if the United States detects suspicious vessels heading to the Mexican territorial sea, it notifies the Secretary of the Navy so that it, in turn, can take the appropriate actions to stop them, without the need for further action. “We do not want to think about another scenario, but rather about closer coordination within the framework of the defense of sovereignty.”

Shortly before, in relation to the telephone conversation she had with the president of Brazil, Luis Inázio Lula da Silva, the president explained that they talked about the situation in Latin America and the defense of sovereignty. In addition, he said that as a result of the visit of the Vice President of Brazil and part of his cabinet to Mexico, some bilateral collaboration agreements were established on which there has been significant progress, regarding which they discussed.

In addition, she mentioned that Lula da Silva invited her to visit Brazil in May, a call that she will have to evaluate.
