The Sabancaya volcano, located in the Arequipa region, experienced an explosion this afternoon with dispersion of ash, mainly affecting districts of the province of Caylloma, according to permanent monitoring carried out by the authorities.
According to the IGP, the dispersion of ash was in the direction of the western and northwest sectors, towards the districts of Huambo, Cabanaconde, Tapay and populated centers. The explosion was reported at 3:48 p.m. this Friday.
Currently, the volcanic massif remains in orange alertwhich means that it registers moderate eruptive activity, with explosions that generate columns of gases and ash that can disperse depending on wind conditions.
For this reason, INDECI recommended that the population stay away from the volcano and, in case of exposure to ash, cover your nose, mouth and eyes. As for the authorities, he urged them to carry out a permanent evaluation of the impact of ashes on water, soil, air and health.
The authorities recalled that the Sabancaya activity is monitored 24 hours a dayand that any significant variation will be communicated in a timely manner.
