They deny changes in President Maduro's legal team

Barry Pollack, lawyer for President Nicolás Maduro, denied that another lawyer, Bruce Fein, has joined the legal team.

He assured that he spoke by phone with President Maduro, who confirmed that “he does not know Fein,” that “he has not communicated with him” and that “he has neither hired him nor authorized him to present himself (as his defense) or to say that he represents,” reports a cable from the EFE agency.

He explained that Fein requested to join the case with a ‘pro hac vice’ legal figure, which allows a lawyer to represent a client occasionally, without jurisdiction, for which he needs judicial authorization.

“Mr. Maduro authorized me to file a motion to withdraw Mr. Fein’s presentation” as his defense, Pollack said.

In response to the request, the judge in the case, Alvin Hellerstein, ordered Fein removed from the case, after he had accepted it.

The next summons of the presidential couple is scheduled for March 17.
