Return to the electoral track. Marisol Pérez Tello is still in the race. He National Election Jury (JNE) declared founded the appeal presented by the Primero la Gente party against the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) Lima Centro 1, which had declared the registration of its list inadmissible because it was out of time.
In the resolution that had left out Primero la Gente, the JEE indicated that the political group had failed to comply with the deadlines established in the electoral schedule, despite the fact that this party alleged flaws in the JNE system.
The candidate herself supported the request before the electoral body, pointing out that the material impossibility of submitting the application for admission on time was not due to the responsibility of her party but rather due to administrative errors of a supplier company in charge of the Declara+ platform of the JNE.
The failures in the system, the party argued, occurred from 11:59 pm on December 23 to noon on Wednesday the 24th and prevented the virtual procedure from being completed within the scheduled time. The Senate candidate, Marco Zeballos, also supported the political organization’s request.
Pérez Tello welcomed the position of the JNE and welcomed its ability to recognize its error. The electoral body must issue the content of its resolution in the next two days.
“This is a triumph, of course, legal, but it is also a triumph for the JNE that is capable of recognizing an error, that technology fails us all. Not doing so would have been setting a precedent for the rest of the disastrous process. I am obviously very satisfied to have fought and, above all, to have found the support of the party and fight this all together,” said the candidate.
The former minister described the first resolution of the JEE as abuse and arbitrariness: “What was happening with us was an absolute abuse of something that was not in our control, but in the control of the JNE, and to remain silent was to recognize a fault that was not real and was to accept arbitrariness. It makes no sense that you want to be a government and be president to change this, and you begin to accept an abuse. What I did was defend with the entire team, of course, what was the truth.”
