José Jerí evades responsibility for crimes and now says that criminals synchronize to destabilize the Government

“Unfortunately, there are opportunities in which criminals act, it seems in a synchronized manner, with the desire to destabilize,” is how the president responded. José Jeríwhen asked about the possible transporters strikegiven the increase in crime at the beginning of 2026.

During his visit to the Ica region, the president José Jeríindicated that it maintains direct communication with the transport sector unions, in the midst of the crisis over the murders of bus drivers. Lime and Callao.

“The measures are the same ones that we have been discussing with them for about three or four months, through the Ministry and the Police. We are always coordinating with them in anticipation of situations,” he noted.

“We understand the position and concern, which is not only their concern, it is our concern, because we have a commitment to the sector, as with other sectors of the country,” added the president.

They deny communication with José Jerí

In this regard, Julio Campos, vice president of the National Transport Alliance, rejected José Jerí’s statements and pointed out that they have not had contact with the Executive power from September 2024.

“We have asked exactly that the pro-crime laws be repealed, if they are not repealed we are not going to sit down. The Executive has to have that political will and the president (José Jerí) have that leadership to ask the Legislature.”

He added that the collection of quotas from transport companies began in 2024 with the sum of 5.8 and 10 soles. He specified that, in 2025, the rate will double; However, in 2026, organized gangs will seek to triple the charge.

“It is no longer paid to one organization, but to three organizations that are paid 10, 20 and 30 soles (…) There are leaders of the sector who have sat down with the Government, but until now there has been no response and there is only ridicule. They have declared Lima a state of emergency and nothing has happened, there are only more deaths.”

In statements to this medium, the director of the International Chamber of Transport, Martín Ojeda, said that extortions have intensified in the last two weeks and that the union is evaluating a meeting to define actions. “The infamous gentlemen have increased or intend to increase from S/ 10 to 30.”
