The Ministry of Transport announced, this Friday (9), the first batch of national driving licenses (CNH) automatically renewed for drivers who have not committed an infraction in the last 12 months. 
The measure, adopted with the aim of benefiting good drivers, is planned in provisional measure published on December 10, 2025.
Today’s date was chosen for the announcement because drivers have 30 days, after the expiration of their driver’s license, to renew their document.
“The decision provides that responsible drivers in traffic do not need to take in-person exams, go to Detrans or pay any additional fee to renew the document. The process will be fully automatic and digital, through the system of the National Traffic Secretariat, Senatran, with the update available on the Brazilian CNH application”, informs the ministry.
During the announcement of the first batch of automatically renewed driver’s licenses, Renan Filho said that a message will be sent, via cell phone, to good drivers congratulating them on their achievement and granting them a stamp.
He explained that the free payment will be for the digital wallet. If the driver wants a physical license, simply request it from Detran, but then you will have to pay for the service.
Renan Filho recalled that, a few years ago, Brazil allowed an increase in the number of points for drivers who committed traffic violations, which, according to him, ended up benefiting the offenders.
“Today, the Brazilian State is telling citizens: be a good driver so as not to pay fees or new exams. So as not to lose the day’s work, nor drop what you are doing and, from time to time, return to a counter, get a piece of paper, pay for a stamp, wait a long time and be another victim of bureaucracy.”
Registration in the National Positive Driver Registry (RNPC) can be done through the CNH application or through the Senatran Services Portal.
Drivers aged 70 or over are not eligible to receive the benefit. Drivers aged 50 and over will receive the benefit once.
“Automatic renewal is not valid for drivers whose driver’s license validity is reduced on medical recommendation, in cases of progressive illnesses or conditions that require health monitoring”, informs the ministry.
