The presidential candidate of Country advances, Jose Williams Zapata, launched a campaign proposal today. The candidate announced his intention to begin the privatization process of PetroPerú if elected president.
In a recent statement through a video on social networks, Williams described the state oil company as a burden for the country, attributing its situation to corruption, inefficiency and lack of political decision of previous governments.
“Petroperú is a dead man that all Peruvians are carrying. It owes more than it is worth. A public company that is totally bankrupt due to corruption and inefficiency, but also due to lack of political decision,” Williams stated.
The candidate criticized that, despite the company’s financial situation, “no one dares to take the only possible path” nor does he want to “assume that political cost.”
Williams assured that his party, Avanza País, has already analyzed the case in depth and has made the political decision to move forward with privatization.
“With the force of your votes, with the force of the law. On July 28, 2026 I will announce the beginning of the privatization process of PetroPerú,” the candidate promised.
The retired general emphasized that he will not allow Peruvians to continue assuming the cost of keeping the company afloat and reaffirmed his commitment to making unpopular decisions necessary for the country. “We are going to make the decisions that no one else will dare to make. For that we need a solid majority in the Senate and deputies. With your support and with your vote we are going to implement a change by force,” he said.
