The text provides for treatment free of embarrassment and violence to the pregnant prisoner who is in labor and in the puerperium period. It will be up to the Public Power to promote comprehensive care for your health and that of the newborn. The Penal Execution Law already requires medical follow-up to the prisoner and the baby, especially in prenatal and postpartum periods. The norms approved today are included in this regulation, adding the humanitarian character of this assistance.

“Given this reality, the proposal has the power to standardize the legislation and bring this debate back to the fore. We need to see the law enforced and guarantee humane treatment to pregnant women, postpartum women, breastfeeding women and mothers who are deprived of their liberty. We need to guarantee integral health for them and their children”, said the project’s rapporteur, Zenaide Maia (PROS-RN)
