The Democratic Centerthis March 15, held a meeting of the entire bench to define what decisions they would make in the face of the presidential elections that will take place in May this year, after Óscar Iván Zuluaga will resign his candidacy.
In resigning, Zuluaga announced his full support for Federico Gutierrez, winning coalition candidate Team for Colombia to dispute the Presidency of the Republic.

For his part, President Álvaro Uribe said that the important thing is to find the right option, “the objective is to defeat at the polls the current candidate of the Historical Pact, Gustav Petro”.
Petro, from the Historical Pact, was considered “the greatest threat and problem that Colombia has,” according to the leader of the Democratic Center.
“We have a very serious problem that is Petro. It is his life, always with hatred, he has spoken of expropriations ”, he indicated. Thus, he called for “searching for a great coalition with which Colombia can effectively confront Petro.”
Similarly, the former president referred to the setback in these elections and took responsibility for the results.
“We reduced many seats, the main person responsible for that decrease is me because of the impact on my reputation,” added Uribe in his speech.

It should be remembered that in the Senate of the Republic, the Democratic Center lost five seats by obtaining 14 last Sundayin relation to the legislative ones of the year 2018, when it achieved 19.
“Any candidate I approach, right there they say ‘uribista’ and put a stigma on him,” added the former president.
