For many people in Bogotá, libraries are common spaces to spend several hours between books, academic consultations, personal readings or moments of silent study. These places are part of the routine of students, researchers and citizens who find there a meeting point with knowledge. However, those who frequent these spaces will have to adjust their agenda during the first weeks of 2026. The Public Library Network of Bogotá, BibloRed, reported that between January 6 and 29, 2026, partial closures will be carried out in different reading spaces in the city due to the annual inventory. According to the entity, 28 libraries Public spaces, two reading rooms and 12 BibloEstaciones will have temporary modifications in their operation. Why are libraries in Bogotá closing in January 2026? BibloRed explained that inventories are carried out every year with the aim of reviewing, organizing and updating the bibliographic and recreational materials available at each location. This procedure allows maintaining control of physical resources, optimizing consultations and improving the user experience. The closures will be partial and staggered, so the Network will not stop operating completely.
