Regional and Municipal Elections: There are already deadlines for resignation of authorities

The Plenary Session of the National Elections Jury (JNE) published the deadlines for resignations, licenses and replacements of local and regional authorities, as well as senior officials who aspire to participate in regional and municipal electionsThey will be held on October 4, 2026.

For its part, the People First party is fighting a legal battle to achieve registration.

The JNE specified that senior officials who intend to run for regional elections must make their resignation effective until April 14, 2026.

And in the event that they intend to run for municipal elections, the resignation before the electoral body must be made until Wednesday, August 5.

REPLACEMENTS OF CHARGES

Through another resolution, the JNE has also specified the rules for the replacement of regional governors and mayors who resign from their positions, as well as the applicable regulations for those who request unpaid leave for electoral purposes.

Additionally, the JNE approved new regulations to modernize its procedures. These are public hearings, for which the virtual modality has been established. The mandatory use of electronic boxes to notify pronouncements and jurisdictional actions of the JNE and the Special Electoral Juries has also been formalized.
